- Get Started
- Achieved “Best Aquaculture Practical Report” issued by Pacific Trading Feeding Global Aquaculture.
- Performed a feed trial, comparing lumpfish raised using two different feeding systems over six weeks.
- Analysed biometric data, feeding behaviour and activity, and consumption rates using R studio.
- Executed multiple dissections on lumpfish before and after the practical.
- Performed routine fish husbandry, including; cleaning of tanks, feeding of fish, checking water quality and removing mortalities.
- Helped build and maintain an artificial coral reef. Created a coral nursery of Acropora palmata, by collecting fragments of the species broken from colonies then attaching these to substrate or nursery trees.
- Boat driving. Able to operate and navigate a boat and capable of picking up scuba divers without a mooring.
- General Marine Park Maintenance. Assisted with lionfish culling and maintenance of dive sites.
- Bird Monitoring. Learned how to identify and count the bird present on St. Eustatius.
- Iguana Patrols. Searched for and collected the Lesser Antillean Iguana, Iguana delicatissima to tag individuals and maintain the population. The Green Iguana, Iguana iguana, was also searched for and removed as it is an invasive species to St. Eustatius.
- Assisted with the Global Coral Reef Monitoring Network. Assisted the Caribbean Netherlands Science Institute collecting data regarding the status and trends of Statia’s coral reefs by scuba diving (Rugosity, Benthic photos for benthic species assemblage, coral recruitment density, fish counts, macro algae index and macroinvertebrate counts).
- Trail Maintenance. Cleared trails for tourists as part of the post hurricane relief effort with power tools after damage caused by hurricane Irma and Maria.
- Education and Outreach. Visited various schools teaching children science. Presented shark conservation talks to local fishermen in an effort to stop shark fishing.
- Scuba surveys. Performed coral and seagrass surveys when scuba diving. Depths ranged from 5 to 35m.
- Performed free dives to count/identify coral and anemone species and investigate coral-anemone phase shifts.
- Achieved a solid grounding in identifying Caribbean fish families and species.
- Thrived in snorkelling activities at night, recording invertebrate counts.
- Excelled in leadership when performing field work. Ensured team members were safe and confident in their designated tasks, and assisted members who were less comfortable in the water. Solid time management as field work hours were set and non-flexible.

Skills & Experience
R Studio
Proficient in the use of R Studio for statistical analysis. Experienced in the use of packages such as: ggplot2, tidyverse, dplyr, dygraph, sp, gstat, lubridate and tidyr.
Microsoft Office
Solid grounding in procedures such as writing reports, collecting and analysing data. Able to present findings in a scientific and professional manner; through usage of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Scuba Diving
Confident diver and swimmer with over 160 logged dives. Experience leading a team of lesser experienced interns on dives. Able to dive up to nitrox 36, and to 50 m depth. Performed coral and seagrass surveys, fish counts, coral nusery maintenance and many lionfish culling dives (using a Hawaiian Sling).
Academic Report Writing
Achieved very high report marks throughout my acadmic career. I recently worked on a dissertation supervised by Professor Callum Roberts, to create a simplistic and realistic oyster filtration model, and achieved 85%.
Powerboating
RYA Powerboat handling level 2. A year of experience as acting captain of the Blue Runner, whilst working in the St. Eustatius Marine Park. Ensured interns were always safe and aware of how to act in any situation.
Github
Understand basic use of Github. Able to connect R Studio workflow to a Github repository for multiple persons to access.
Presenting
Very confident public speaker, able to convey scientific information in an accessible, clear and charming manner. Described as "flamboyant and televisual" by Professor Callum Roberts.
Marine Mammal Medic
Qualified Marine Mammal Medic with the BDMLR, able to confidently help marine animals in distress. Taught how to rescue, seals, dolphins and whales.
First aid and Defribrillator
Worked as a watersports supervisor and sports coach for school children in Swansea. This training was repeated again when completing BSAC Sports Diver.
Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award
Further enhanced my team working and communication skills, to navigate welsh wilderness, managing resources and time.
RYA Small craft sea survival
Possess an understanding of how to use the safety equipment on board any boat.

Intro
I hold a BSc in Marine Biology with a Year in Industry (First Class Honours) at Swansea University/Prifysgol Abertawe and a MSc in Marine Environmental Management (with distinction) at the University of York.
During which, my work has taken me from west Wales to the Dutch Caribbean and to Puerto Rico, where I have worked alongside national parks and globally recognised research organisations, both leading and assisting with scientific research. My current masters degree has allowed me to work remotely alongside the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology (Gates Coral Lab) during the COVID 19 pandemic.
Immediately upon joining my undergraduate degree I joined the University scuba diving society. My love for scuba diving quickly grew, leading me to becoming a BSAC Dive Leader with over 160 logged dives. The majority of these dives were located in the beautiful, warm and diverse waters of the Caribbean, where I worked alongside marine park rangers maintaining the St. Eustatius Marine Park.

Throughout and alongside my academic experience, I have always been an ardent lover of presenting, with lecturers and tutors describing me as confident and televisual, even flamboyant. Particularly, I am interested in communicating science in engaging, accessible and creative ways to the public, to inspire individuals to act, protect and engage with the natural world.
In November 2020, at the Western Society of Naturalists conference, I presented a spatiotemporal analysis of in situ sea temperature across model Montipora Capitata populations in Kāne'ohe Bay, Hawai'i. I completed this project in association with the Hawai'i Institute of Marine Biology.
